Correlation of Radiation Damage Effects in High Resistivity Silicon Detectors with Results from Deep Level Spectroscopy*

Neutron irradiated high resistivity silicon detectors have been subjected to isochronous annealing in order to study the changes in the full depletion voltage and the leakage current. The corresponding evolution of bulk damage induced defect levels was monitored using the TSC method. A single TSC peak is found to be correlated with the transient decay of the depletion voltage which is observed ...

Relation between Microscopic Defects and Macroscopic Changes in Silicon Detector Properties after Hadron Irradiation

Silicon detectors produced from materials with different doping and oxygen concentration have been irradiated with 27 MeV and 23 GeV protons, 192 MeV pions and 5.3 MeV neutrons. In isothermal annealing studies at 60°C the microscopic defect evolution (measured with DLTS) and the changes in the detector leakage current were monitored in parallel. It is shown that the annealing of a broad DLTS pe...

Effect of Annealing on Track Density in Unirradiated and Gamma Irradiated Cr-39 When Used for Fast Neutron Detection*

The effect of annealing on track density in unirradiated CR-39 and gamma irradiated CR-39 neutron detectors was investigated. One group of CR-39 detectors (25.4 x 12.7 x 0.635 mm) was irradiated with 1.3 kGy of 6oCo gamma rays. The other group of detectors was not irradiated with gamma radiation. The two sets of detectors were then annealed at temperatures ranging from room temperature (2OOC) t...

A study of the double-acceptor level of the silicon divacancy in a proton irradiated n-channel CCD

Radiation damage effects are problematic for space-based detectors. Highly energetic particles, predominantly from the sun can damage a detector and reduce its operational lifetime. For an image sensor such as a Charge-Coupled Device (CCD) impinging particles can potentially displace silicon atoms from the CCD lattice, creating defects which can trap signal charge and degrade an image through s...

Simulation of a Neutron Detector for Real Time Imaging Applications

Monte Carlo Method is used to simulate a double layer gadolinium-amorphous silicon thermal neutron detector. The detector fabricated in pixel array configuration has various applications including neutron imaging. According to the simulation results, a detector consisting of a gadolinium (Gd) film with thickness of 2-4 ~m, sandwiched properly with two layers of sufficiently thick (-30 ?µm) hydr...
